Happiness

Happiness

Okay, this took 2 hours to write (usually it takes me 10-20 minutes). And I did a total of zero minutes proofreading... actually I didnt even re-read it at all, so bear with me!! Thank you for reading.
What is happiness? And where can I find it?

Well, if it stays between me and you,
I really haven't got a clue.
The Dictionary says its joy, contentment, and pleasure,
but these things are really impossible to measure.
We all have happy stories of times we were glad,
but how come we never tell good tales of times bad?
We're all caught up in material, and our own selfish pleas,
There is never enough happiness because no one is ever fully pleased.

Happiness is giggling and bountiful laughter
Happy is the life goal everyone is after.
We do what we do because we are creatures of substance,
our lovers, our hobbies, happiness drives our existence.
It's true what they say, money cant buy it,
the rich and the wealthy, not even they can find it.
So really, what is it? Is it something we feel?
And how do we get it? Is it even real?

Sometimes, I guess, its just being alone,
Listening to music, playing on your phone,
Laying in bed or going on a peaceful walk,
Or even looking in a mirror and having a nice long talk.
Taking a shower and washing everything away,
Or falling sleep early in anticipation of a new day.
Chomping some chips, sipping a soda on your La-Z-Boy,
Yes, sometimes being alone brings us a certain joy.

Happiness can come from the bonds of friends and lovers,
For some, it comes from the feelings those people uncover.
To truly find happy, we must overcome obstacles and whims,
To truly overcome, we must forgive our own sins.
Sometimes we must sacrifice and lower expectations,
But we've always got to apply our power of adaptation.
Look at the bright side, there are always others less fortunate,
And sometimes, what makes us happy--we've got to let go of it.

To be happy, those around us must be also,
We must balance our struggles and get over our ego.
Happiness and smiling, they go hand in hand,
But don't take it for granted, because it can't be canned.
Feed off the sad, learn from our mistakes,
Life is a race, take your foot off the brakes.
Turn the heartache into joy, make that reversal,
And always remember, happiness is a goal--universal.
